You know Instagram’s important for your biz, so you’re doing the damn thing. You’ve locked down a solid handle, you’ve set up your Buffer account, you’ve queued up (what you think is) some content gold.
But nothing’s happening!
No clicks, no calls, no comments. You’re putting all this effort into your Insta and it’s not moving the needle on your biz at all.
Is Instagram even worthit?
The answer, of course, is yes. Instagram can be a huge needle mover for your biz, whether you’re selling beauty products across the country or booking out clients for your baller lash extension services.
But in order for Instagram to work for you and your biz, you need to make sure you’re optimizing the H-E-double-hockey-sticks out of your feed.
Here are three of the biggest mistakes beauty professionals make on their Instagram feeds. Don’t worry, though, sis, they’re easy fixes once you know what they are.
First up, your photos.
For Instagram, you want to aim for quality NOT quantity. If your photos are bad or blurry, they’ll make your work or products look sloppy.
Basically, if you don’t have anything nice to post, don’t post anything at all! A super off-brand, dimly lit photo can actually turn prospective clients away. Better to play it safe and not post it, rather than risk having a terrible photo makes you look unprofessional. LIGHTING IS EVERYTHING!
You don’t need to invest in a $$$ photographer to get good photos. If you have an advanced smartphone, you can probably snap serviceable pics.
Similarly, even if you can’t afford a graphic designer, you can use free tools like Canva to make cute graphics for your feed. If you’re trying to make an image in Paint, then girl, you’ve got a LOT to learn. Use a free or cheap template to make your graphics look profesh.
Your feed should be beautiful, enticing, and show off your personality.Bad pics aren’t worth it! If you have to post less frequently, but can post higher quality content, that’s way better than trying to fill everyday with subpar work.
Your Instagram isn’t just a place to post beautiful photos. It’s a place to networkwith your potential clients! But what good is networking if these people don’t have a way to contact you?
Think about your Instagram as a shiny, ever-changing business card. What do business cards have, first and foremost? Your name, email, and phone number.
Optimize your Insta to have this information. Don’t assume that customers will go the extra mile to google you and find your website. You should have, at a minimum, your business’ name, website, and a way to contact you (phone or email, both if you have it) in your bio.
You also want to fill your feed and your posts specifically with calls-to-action. These nifty lines of text are basically like directions. TELL your followers what you want them to do at the end of each and every post. Do you want them to book an appointment?
SAY SO!
Adding something like, “PS: If you’re looking for the flyest lashes around, DM me” will encourage people to engage and interact with you. Otherwise they’ll keep on scrolling!
These days, authenticity is king when it comes to content. We consume so much online content every day that it’s incredibly easy to sniff out what’s fake from what’s real. And guess what? People don’t want to engage with fake content.
Don’t try to be something you’re not on your Instagram. It’ll be hard for you to keep up and your followers will feel like something’s off about you. If you’re a nerd, be a nerd! (#lashnerdsunite) If you’re a beauty queen, be a beauty queen!
Be real on your feed and your followers will want to engage! That’s what Instagram is about, after all: connecting real people to other real people!
Remember, ladies, Instagram is all about quality over quantity! You want to make sure your content is engaging, personal, pleasing to the eye, and has some clear action you want your followers to take at the end.
What are you waiting for? Get out there and fix that feed!
